Washington Freedom: Meet the Players Part Two

All four of the next players to meet have played international cricket and will add some real firepower and skill to our team: Ben Dwarshuis, Anrich Nortje, Dane Piedt and Glenn Phillips.

Ben Dwarshuis

A star from Sydney, Dwarhuis is a talented left-arm pace bowler who has become one of the most sought-after players on the T20 circuit.

A Sydney Sixers legend, he is their second-highest wicket-taker in history with his performances earning him deals with Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred and the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Last year, he made his debut for Australia against Pakistan and if his form continues, he’ll no doubt be walking out in the green and gold of Australia again soon.

Anrich Nortje

One of the fastest bowlers in the world, there are few players as exciting to watch in all of cricket than Anrich Nortje in full flow. Add in his trademark handlebar mustache and you’ll soon find yourself with a new favorite player.

Upon announcing his signing, Washington Freedom General Manager Michael Klinger said: “Nortje is arguably the best fast bowler in the world in all formats and particular T20. To be able to have him as part of our team is fantastic.”

Dane Piedt

A local player with international experience, former South African international Piedt played nine test matches for his country taking 26 wickets. Primarily an off-spin bowler, Piedt is useful with the bat and has a Test 50 to his name.

A multi-talented man, Piedt is also a keen commentator occasionally heard over the mic covering Minor League Cricket. Piedt now lives in the USA and was the star spinner for Morrisville Raptors in the Minor League.

A dependable domestic player, we can’t wait for Dane to bring all his experience to Washington Freedom.

Phillips has represented his country in all three formats and is an extremely experienced T20 player, having participated in a number of the top leagues all around the world. He is currently playing in the Indian Premier League for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

He is the first New Zealand international to be added to the squad and was his country’s star player at the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he scored a breathtaking century against Sri Lanka in a crucial victory.
