Both of Washington Freedom’s representatives at the World Cup successfully qualified for the final four, whilst there is success in domestic cricket for Moises Henriques, Akeal Hosein and Dane Piedt.

It has been a successful World Cup for both Marco Jansen and Glenn Phillips, who each played vital roles for their nation in securing a place in the semi-finals.

All-rounder Jansen has been one of the star bowlers of the competition, finishing the group stage with 17 wickets at an average of 24.41 and contributing 157 runs with the bat.

Likewise Phillips has been the lynchpin of a New Zealand side who had to win their final group game in order to qualify, having started the competition with four wins but following those results up with four losses. Phillips has made two half-centuries during the World Cup, scoring 244 runs at an average of 40.66. With the ball, his offspinners have picked up six wickets at an average of 33.33.

Elsewhere, there has been exciting news that Dane Piedt has returned to South African domestic cricket, with a view to playing once again for the Proteas. After claiming a five-wicket haul in his first match back, Piedt has been named in the South Africa ‘A’ squad that will play three four-day matches against a West Indian touring side.

Our captain Moises Henriques celebrated his 100th Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales, where he led his team to a first win in 15 matches with a superb victory over Western Australia.
