(Tampa, FL ) The Washington Freedom continues to display their commitment to the development of players and women’s soccer alike. Center of Excellence players Hannah Levin, Sharon Wojcik, Moria Sloan, Marlo Sweatman and Andi Sullivan as well as Coaches Win Puffer and Kris Ward represented the Freedom at the SYL Girl’s ODP Camp last week. An event that brings together the top talent throughout the Super Y League in the U-15, U-16, and U-17 age groups and is run by some of the top coaches within the USL. US National Staff Coach (current Girls U-15 Head Coach and U-17 Asst Coach) Mike Dickey was on hand to evaluate talent and speak with the coaching staff.
For the players it is yet another opportunity to challenge themselves and see where they are in their own development, for the coaches it is an opportunity to evaluate the talent level and gauge whether their training methods need to be augmented. Fortunately the weather cooperated as far as sunny skies so it made for a good week of camp. Each day the players would train in teams during the morning and then play games at night. On Sunday there were four teams selected from the top players in the whole camp and they got to play a game and showcase their abilities. The Freedom players showed well, with Sloan, Wojcik, Sweatman, and Sullivan all playing on Sunday.
Three of the Freedom players were named to the ODP National Camp Select Team, placing one each in all three age groups:
Andi Sullivan for the 95/96 age group
Marlo Sweatman for the 94’s
Sharon Wojcik for the 93’s.
The Freedom had thirteen members invited to attend the 2010 USL Super Y-League National ODP Camp.
